NPC APPLICATIONS

npc applications.
applications are currently OPEN.
They will close once all available roles have been filled.
NPCs currently available: Njord, Tyr, Mimir, and Frigg.

application processing.
Before you submit an application, there are many pages you must read first. For the basics, start with the premise, game rules, NPC rules, FAQs, and selecting a god house. Once you have a god in mind that you might like to play, visit their god house and god power pages to learn more about the set mechanics and characteristics for each character. We will link these individually below for convenience. You do not need to know anything about Norse mythology to apply for an NPC. Our lore is totally whack, y'all, and we're making a lot of it up as we go. Certain things will be set in stone, but we hope you can find fun ways to work with them. If you have any questions, please ask before applying so we can clear things up for you!

When you're ready, copy the below application into a comment on this page. Put PLAYER NAME - GOD NAME APPLICATION in the title of your comment. All comments are screened for privacy.

rules and procedures.
  • You may only apply for one NPC. Faith is playing Odin because we need him to maintain mod control and Honir because he's her baby, but we're otherwise limiting everyone to one NPC.
  • There is sort of a "right" or "wrong" answer in terms of veering too far from what's written, but there's also no "perfect" representation of these characters. We aren't using the same versions of these NPCs from Asgard Eventide, we're in our own version of them living in Yggdrasil-2. We want you to take what's written and come up with your own version, something that sounds fun and exciting for you to play and develop in the world of Asgard Genesis.
  • More than anything else really, we just want to know you'd have fun playing this character! This is why we added a "personal sample" for you to talk about why you want to play an NPC and what you might be excited to do with them/us!

how to apply.
  1. Read the linked pages for the necessary background information.
  2. Read the character profiles below to decide which one you'd like to apply for. Which one sounds the most fun?
  3. Copy the application below into a comment on this post. Put PLAYER NAME - GOD NAME APPLICATION in the title of your comment.

OOC Information
Player Name:
Contact: personal DW account, plurk, discord, email, etc. We must have a reliable way of contacting you directly. We recommend making a discord if you don't already have one, as we have an NPC channel for easy communication.
Time Zone:
Availability: What times are you generally online throughout the week for roleplay stuff? When is a good time to reach you if we need to contact you directly? Are you certain you can make the time commitment for this?
Playing a PC?: Are you currently playing a PC? Please let us know their name and canon here!

IC Information
God Name:
Played By: If you would want to change it! Otherwise, you can write N/A.

Personality: Taking what you know of the god you've chosen, write your interpretation of them as a character. What motivates them? What are their likes and dislikes? What are they afraid of? What's their perspective of the ideal world? Write as much as you'd like to for this. Faith filled out the personality sections for Odin and Honir to give an example; this section doesn't need to be overly detailed or long, but we do want to see a well thought out character perspective. We'll most likely respond to your comment with questions about your interpretation, but don't be alarmed by this! As stated, these "revisions" are a way to learn more about how you'd want to play this character. Consider it a thought building exercise.

Opinion of the Wanderers: We would like you to tell us what you think your god's opinion and general reaction to the Wanderers will be, based on the personality you have in mind for them. This doesn't have a right or wrong answer, we'd just like to get an idea of how you plan on interacting with the playerbase!

Samples
Written Sample: For your written sample, we would like you to write about your chosen god's reaction to the very first human born in Yggdrasil OR to the first Wanderer appearing in Yggdrasil. You can use the other NPCs as props for your scene, and don't worry about portraying them perfectly. We're more interested in seeing into the thoughts and motivations of your character in that scene. You can use prose or [action brackets] for this, and there is no set word requirement. Write as much as you think you need to for a thoughtful look into your character representation. This is your chance to show us how you would play your character. If there's something else you'd like to write about as your prompt, feel free! As long as it shows your interpretation of this character.

Personal Sample: Why do you want to play this NPC? What about this role sounds exciting or fun to you? Are you down with the culture of creativity and encouragement we're trying to build? Do you understand and agree to follow our rules? This is your chance to tell us about yourself and why you think you'd be a good fit for the team. Tell us as much or as little as you want, but know that the mods are a bunch of squishy beans and you will definitely be subjected to our ridiculousness. Let us know that you're down for the insanity that will be this role.

ODIN
❧ God of Knowledge and Wisdom
[personal profile] asgardswisdom
❧ Current Player: Pia

Age: Roughly 4850, the first born of the gods
Played By: Viggo Mortenson maybe? maybe I'll change it??? IDK man.
Color: Gold, color code: #db9d45
God House: LINK
God Power: LINK
Personality: Odin is the King of Asgard, and he takes his position very seriously. Being the leader of the gods, and by association, all other living beings in Yggdrasil - it's a lot of responsibility that may have hardened him over time. Doing what is best does not always mean doing what is easy, and nothing Odin seeks to do is easy. He seeks knowledge in a world that is still forming, where answers do not exist because the question has not been posed yet. He seeks wisdom in an existence that contradicts itself, being both the first life brought into the world and that which will grow to end all life. Now, he seeks to bring mortals under divine protection, planting themselves more physically into the world than the ethereal beings they have been. What they are doing is unknowable, perhaps even unwise, and he fears the repercussions this might have on his brethren if it isn't done properly. That is the challenge for him. Yes, he will protect the weakest of the Mother's children, but so too will he protect Her strongest.

As Her firstborn, he must guide them all along the safest path in order for the World Tree to thrive. Navigating a path of your own making is difficult though, and Odin relies on sight beyond just his own eyes. He takes counsel from all of the gods on matters of particular importance - more often in official capacity as King than the personal level - and considers their collective opinions before making a final decision. Sometimes he must make decisions without any of their support at all, and sometimes he lets them decide for him. This serves to keep them all involved in the process, but at the end of each day or millennia, he is still their King. Odin knows they are his younger siblings, but quite unintentionally along the way, he ended up taking upon the role of "father". Thus with the establishment of Asgard, he was named the Allfather: he who seeks to protect all of the Mother's children.

Odin is not particularly emotive, but he is not cruel either. He wouldn't begrudge someone calling him cold - but at the same time, he puts no stock in opinions of little value. He is a scientist first and foremost, data and facts interest him long before emotional pleas or moral quandaries (that's more in Mimir's realm). Odin's not heartless, he feels the same anger and happiness and disappointment as anyone else. He just keeps it all carefully contained to be able to perform his duty as the leader of all people, and doesn't have the time to console a broken heart during a tragedy when he's the one expected to stop it from happening again. He must remain practical, and so he appreciates those that can set their emotions aside to take action during times of need. Knowledge is wisdom, and he can't let emotions cloud the facts of a situation when his job is to find answers.
God Relationships: Odin is the stoic father figure of the family overall.
  • Njord: As the oldest two gods, Odin feels a kinship with Njord that's different than the others. This may have been strained by their differing views on the world, but Odin welcomes his counsel all the same.
  • Skadi: Odin appreciates Skadi's blend of creativity and efficiency, but there is a certain distance between them that he doesn't quite understand or question.
  • Sigyn: Odin is at his most "fatherlike" around Sigyn. Perhaps not the warm doting father one might hope for, but still with a genuine love and concern for her well being.
  • Tyr: Odin values Tyr's opinion for his unique view of the world, but still regards him as a loose cannon of sorts. If there's a "wild child" in the family, Odin's certain it's Tyr.
  • Heimdall: Odin's right hand man. He's tried to make it less formal of a bodyguard-king situation, but it's been difficult when Odin's not very personable himself.
  • Mimir: Odin's best friend and closest confidant. They have a friendly rivalry for their adjacent yet conflicting domains.
  • Honir: Honir tends to exasperate and amaze Odin in equal measure. He indulges Honir's fleeting fancies out of endearment and appreciation for his faith in him.
  • Frigg: Frigg is the most magnificent embodiment of the Mother's influence in Odin's eyes, but this is mostly only seen in the way he looks at her when she's speaking.
Opinion of the Wanderers: Odin views the Wanderers as a scientist's most wonderful lab experiment. They are proof that the World Tree is fruitful, and for that reason alone, he is fascinated in them - but from a scientific standpoint. They are curious little creatures that must be protected and ultimately sent home. Odin will not let himself get distracted from that end goal, so he will always maintain that measure of distance from them, knowing that they must leave as quickly as possible. Frigg wants him to open up to them and understand their plight to give them comfortable lives while they're here, but his job isn't to make lives comfortable. It's to make sure they keep living. Everyone else can handle comfort.
Notes: Odin is in love with Frigg, but they don't get "married" for another 250 years. They are the perfect foils for each other, Odin providing guidance and stability while Frigg provides compassion and humanity to his rigid stances. They are "father" and "mother" of Asgard without strictly having those titles.

NJORD
❧ God of Poetry and Secrecy
[personal profile] asgardspoet
❧ Current Player: Pia

Age: Roughly 4600, the second born of the gods
Played By: I'm not sure what his name is, but you can change it if you'd like to!
Color: Navy Blue, color code: #56718a
God House: LINK
God Power: LINK
Personality:
God Relationships: Njord is the passive aggressive poet in the family.
  • Odin: The younger brother... but only by a few hundred years.
  • Skadi: Married.
  • Sigyn:
  • Tyr:
  • Heimdall:
  • Mimir:
  • Honir:
  • Frigg:
Opinion of the Wanderers:
Notes: In the future, Njord and Skadi leave Asgard to build their own kingdom of Vanaheim after Tyr begins his love affair with Laufey, the Queen of the Earth Giants. They will be abhorrently against this unnatural union of incompatible magic, and it will be the "final straw" for them deciding to separate themselves from their kin. Asgard and Vanaheim then go to war for several thousand years, only finding peace after a political hostage exchange for the betterment of both kingdoms. This won't happen in game - it'll be another 250 years before any of this begins - but it's something to keep in mind for your characterization of them. Are there things in Asgard they're currently discontented with? Will that contribute to their eventual decision to leave? What does it mean for one to abide so strictly by their ideals that they would leave their family for it?

TYR
❧ God of Courage and Diplomacy
[personal profile] asgardsguide
❧ Current Player: Trace

Age: roughly 2800 years, the sixth born of the gods
Played By: Harry Shum Jr; he has been seen in game already so changing his PB gets a little trickier, but we can ask players to retcon it if you'd like to pick a new one
Color: Crimson, color code: #7A0000
God House: LINK
God Power: LINK
Personality:
God Relationships: Tyr is the flamboyant troublemaker of the family.
  • Odin:
  • Njord:
  • Skadi:
  • Sigyn:
  • Heimdall:
  • Mimir:
  • Honir:
  • Frigg:
Opinion of the Wanderers: Because we formerly had a player for Tyr, he has already had some interactions with the Wanderers to reference. So far, it's mostly been playful curiosity, something you can easily expand upon in any way you'd like. Please don't feel obligated to match the original personality 100%, although it'll be good to keep in mind and use as a starting point.
Notes: Tyr is trying to repair the relationship between the gods and giants, currently only finding success with the Earth Giants and their queen, Laufey. The two eventually fall in love and begin a series of events that affect Yggdrasil's future, but that won't start for another 250 years. Tyr and Laufey are the ones that will work together to build the network for the Wanderers, so there may be guest appearances with Laufey where they must behave as friendly allies instead of potential (and future) lovers.

HONIR
❧ God of Travel and Whimsy
[personal profile] asgardsflight
❧ Current Player: Trace

Age: roughly 2100, the eighth born of the gods
Played By: Rodrigo Santoro
Color: Rouge, color code: #993542
God House: LINK
God Power: LINK
Personality: As the God of Travel and Whimsy, Honir's heart and mind are always somewhere in the clouds. He is fascinated by every intricate thing the Mother has created, and so he wants to see and try as many of those things as he possibly can. Honir flits from one hobby to the next, rarely mastering anything yet equally excited and enthusiastic about the things he fails at. He loves sharing his new findings with anyone that will listen, speaking animatedly about anything and everything that catches his interest. He likes inviting his siblings to participate as well, even when he knows they'll reject him, because they bring him joy and he wants to share that joy and excitement with the world.

Despite his outward appearances, though, Honir isn't so air-headed as to be stupid. Sometimes things make sense to him in a way they don't for anyone else. He isn't educated like the Allfather or as thoughtful as Mimir, but Honir looks at the world and sees beauty in every molecule. This makes it easy for him to bend the fabric of reality to his will, manipulating magic in ways his siblings never have or don't quite understand. Honir himself only attributes this to his deep heartfelt love for the Mother, but in a way, he's a natural genius. This is a source of frustrating endearment for many of the other gods, particularly Odin who would love if there was literally any way whatsoever to make sense of Honir's methods, but Honir only answers questions about it with a bright smile and a hapless shrug.

Honir is an endlessly happy creature with boundless optimism. Running a million miles a minute on a one-track mind, Honir is easily distracted or confused by things that throw him off that track. He takes things he's told at face value until he relays the new information to Mimir to be summarily corrected and confused even further. He thrives off of interaction with others and loves mortals in every variation of them, often spending time with them just to listen to them speak while he helps them carry out their duties. While he views all of the Mother's children as kin, the gods are his treasured family and he loves them as deeply as he does the Mother. Honir even views the giants as family, too young or perhaps too naive to fully understand their violent estrangement.
God Relationships: Honir is the hyper-energetic youngest brother of the family.
  • Odin: His most amazing brother. Honir avidly respects and admires Odin, even when they don't agree on things, and loyally follows his commands.
  • Njord: The brother he is most nervous around. Honir hopes he can find a way to impress him someday.
  • Skadi: Honir loves Skadi's beautiful mind and likes watching her work without realizing when she's being condescending to him.
  • Sigyn: The most adorable baby sister. As the second youngest, Honir loves going on adventures with her. The other gods tend to be wary of this.
  • Tyr: Honir looks up to Tyr and even tries to model himself after him in some ways. They are two peas in a ridiculous pod and can very easily get into trouble together.
  • Heimdall: If you imagine a younger sibling dangling from an older sibling's arm to see how strong they are, that's generally Honir's relationship with Heimdall.
  • Mimir: These two quite unintentionally revolve around one another. Honir takes Mimir on whirlwind adventures while Mimir keeps Honir from flying too close to the sun. They balance each other out.
  • Frigg: As the two most affectionate and emotionally expressive members of the family, Honir loves hanging out with Frigg to feel right at home.
Opinion of the Wanderers: Honir is like every single child on Christmas morning when he looks at the Wanderers. They are the most magnificent things in the known universe, because they are the Mother's impossible children. They are Yggdrasil's dream, the World Tree's precious fruits, the embodiment of every ounce of hope and love the Mother has poured into Her creations. He loves them so dearly - perhaps too dearly, even, that he might feel too much sympathy for them at times and want to help them in any way he can. Thankfully, Honir's more radical tendencies are reigned in by the fact that he always asks for permission to do things he's not sure about, and follows the Allfather's wisdom foremost.
