GOD POWER: MIMIR

god power: mimir.
the god of philosophy and strategy.
Mimir is a god of careful thought and planning, and his yearning for knowledge is quiet but powerful. It is easy for tacticians to seem like they are all strategy and fact, but Mimir knows the value in both the objectiveness of the past and all of the sprawling possibilities of the future. What makes you the way you are? What about your life informs the choices you will make going forward? And, most importantly: how can he use that information to beat you in that friendly game of chess?

mimir's realm of magic.
Divination Magic
Divination is a school of magic that reveals information. Divination spells enable you to learn secrets long forgotten, to predict the future, to find hidden things, and to foil deceptive spells. You can find a list of Divination spells here.

Transmutation Magic
Transmutation is a school of magic that transforms the recipient physically or changes its properties in a more subtle way. Transmutation spells change the properties of some creature, thing, or condition. You can find a list of Transmutation spells here.

Power Set Samples
Divination:
Power Set Justification: spells that "touch the mind"
  1. Level One: Detect Thoughts: For up to 10 minutes you can focus your mind on any one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you. You initially learn the surface thoughts of the creature - what is most immediately on its mind in that moment. If you attempt to probe any deeper than surface thoughts, the target may attempt to resist; should they fail, you gain additional insight such as their emotional state, deeper reasoning behind their actions, or something that is weighing on their mind. Whether or not they resist the spell effects, the target knows that you were probing their mind. The spell ends if they resist, or once you gain additional insight.
  2. Level Two: Mind Spike: You reach into the mind of one creature you can see within range. Failing to resist the spell's effects results in you knowing the target's location for up to four hours. While you have this knowledge, the target can’t become hidden from you, even if it's invisible.
  3. Level Three: Telepathic Bond: You forge a telepathic link among up to 10 willing creatures of your choice within 60 feet, psychically linking each creature to all the others for up to one hour. Until the spell ends, the targets can communicate telepathically through the bond. The communication starts to feel strained at 200 feet away from each other, with words getting choppy and difficult to interpret; moving more than 300 feet away from each other will result in the spell ending early.
Transmutation:
Power Set Justification: spells that "manipulate movement"
  1. Level One: Catapult: Choose one object of up to 50 pounds within 60 feet of you that isn’t being worn or carried. The object flies in a straight line up to 120 feet in a direction you choose before falling to the ground, stopping early if it impacts against a solid surface. Once the object strikes something, both it and whatever it hits are damaged.
  2. Level Two: Slow: You alter time around up to 10 creatures of your choice in a 40 foot cube within range. Any creature who cannot resist the spell's effects is then slowed to a near-glacial pace for up to 10 minutes.
  3. Level Three: Reverse Gravity: This spell reverses gravity in a 50 foot radius centered on a point within 100 feet of you. All creatures and objects that aren't somehow anchored to the ground in the area fall 100 feet upward when you cast this spell; a creature may attempt to grab onto something that is anchored, but they will still be somewhat floating in the air. If some solid object (such as a ceiling) is encountered in the fall, affected objects and creatures will still strike it just as they would during a normal downward fall. If an object or creature reaches the top of the area without striking anything, it remains there, oscillating slightly, for up to ten minutes or until you dismiss the spell. When the effect ends, affected objects and creatures fall back to the ground.
You may select or adapt either of these power sets for use!

how to pick your power.
All of this crazy nonsense said, there are three ways you can choose your power:
  1. pick one of the above samples: the easiest solution! We've already presented you with two power sets following a logical progression of development within your god's realm of magic. You can swap some levels out or adapt them in some way, but it's there if you'd like to rely on it.
  2. pick spells from the D&D spell list: this may require some finagling, but we highly recommend this! Follow the links above to select three spells by increasing level that seem related to each other in some logical way. You may pick any three spells you wish, but the levels should follow the general guideline of:
    1. First Level: cantrip - 2nd level
    2. Second Level: 2nd level - 5th level
    3. Third Level: 5th level - 9th level
If some spells don't make sense, or if you know what they do but don't know how it would work in game, let us know and we'll help you adapt it to our world. If you find one spell you like but you don't know what to do about the others, let us know and we can provide suggestions for the rest. If you are familiar with the D&D spell system and want to create a set that is relevant to your god's domain but is not in their listed schools of magic, you can still apply for it as an original set!
  3. provide a well-balanced original power set of your own: this will be highly scrutinized by the mods for fairness, so plan accordingly! Consider your god's domains and realm of magic, and come up with one central power along with two logical levels of progression building upon that core magic. The levels should be appropriately along the lines of: weak - strong - powerful. There must also be reasonable limitations on your suggested power. The mods may make adjustments as they see fit before approval. You may use the Superpower Wiki if you'd like, but please provide links for reference.
To submit your power for approval, copy the appropriate form below and reply to this post with CHARACTER NAME - CANON in the title of your comment. A mod will respond to your comment with APPROVED/REVISIONS/REJECTED along with clearer descriptions of your powers or additional comments. We'll have a little bit of back and forth conversation on this post (or in private if you prefer; feel free to contact us) to hash out the details, so don't be afraid if we respond with revisions! We're really excited to be giving you guys customizable powers so we hope you'll work with us in making this manageable.

ready to level up?
Have you been active within your community in Asgard? Have you hosted an event or built an establishment or otherwise contributed to the development of your district? Have you forged a meaningful relationship with your god? Has living in Asgard contributed to your development as a person in some way? Or has your presence in Asgard contributed to someone else's development as a person, whether it be by positive or negative means? There are many different ways to "qualify" for leveling up; the point is that we want to see true development in yourself, your god, or your world. We want to see how you are shaping Asgard, or how Asgard is shaping you. This investment is what strengthens the bond between you and your god, granting you access to greater levels of power. If you need help figuring out what this justification might look like for your character, please contact us so we can guide you to your next level!

That said, there will be an activity requirement and a short written explanation of what your character has accomplished and developed here in Asgard. This doesn't need to be fancy or anything, we just really want to see your character getting something out of the game and being rewarded with some kickass new powers. As of right now, the level up requirements are as follows:
  • Level Two:
    • Activity Requirement: 50 comments with at least five different characters (5 comments minimum from your character per thread), each showing some type of "development" or "growth" as described above. You may use up to seven threads to meet the 50 comment requirement. All comments posted in-character on the network and log communities and IC inboxes are valid for these proofs. Threads may be from no longer than six months prior to your application. This should give you plenty of time to build upon a slow-burn development, such as projects that take a long time to complete or relationships that change over time. Show us something good or maybe even something bad happening to your character that has in some way pushed them to grow. Let us peep on some on some of your more meaningful threads!
    • Written Requirement: write no less than five sentences describing your character's growth as a result of their actions or influence in Asgard. Are they happy? Are they scared? Has Asgard made them see something in a new light, or are they now focused on something drastically different than their home life? You can consider this a basic summary of what your character has done during their time in Asgard and how this may have affected them. This doesn't need to be very fancy or long, whatever you think is enough to show some small amount of development for your character.
  • Level Three:
    • Activity Requirements: 75 comments with at least three different characters (7 comments minimum from your character per thread), each showing a significant amount of "development" or "growth" for your character. You may use may use up to five threads to meet the 50 comment requirement. You may only reuse two of the same characters from your Level Two application, and you cannot reuse the same threads. All comments posted in-character on the network and log communities and IC inboxes are valid for these proofs. Threads may be from no longer than three months prior to your application. This is because we specifically want to see something profound happen for your character that affects them as a person in some way. Level Three is the "powerful" stage of your power, which means your bond with your god and/or your district is at its strongest. Why? What happened? What changed for them? What are they committed to now that they might not have been beforehand? What have they gained or lost that has shifted their outlook or priorities? We want to see deep character development and the threads where it all happened.
    • Written Requirement: write no less than seven sentences describing the growth your character has gone through overall in Asgard. Build upon what you told us about in your Level Two application without reusing too much of the same information. Tell us about something your character influenced that has had a deep impact on either you, your god, or Asgard and Yggdrasil overall. How has your character's time in Asgard changed something on a profound level? Brag about it and let us soak in the awesomeness of your accomplishments. The major things we're looking for are 1) a major change in a character's personality or behaviour compared to them entering the game, 2) a way that your character has engaged with their Godhaus, and 3) a demonstration of their involvement with the setting in general (ie. magic, lore, major plot events, etc.)
When you're ready, copy the appropriate application below and respond to your original comment from when you first requested your power. Put CHARACTER NAME - LEVEL TWO/THREE APPLICATION in the title of your new comment. The mods will respond with APPROVED/REVISIONS/REJECTED along with an explanation of our decision and additional comments. To be quite frank, we're more invested in you having fun than being super strict about this whole process, so don't be afraid of feeling like you need to meet a certain standard or anything. This is honestly just a way for you to show us that you're doing something fun in the game, and we want to reward you for that with some new magic tricks. It's really as simple as that! If you're ever uncertain, give us what you have and we'll work with you on it, and always feel free to contact us directly for help.

Player Name: Latroma
Character Name: Terezi Pyrope ([personal profile] mindseer)
Canon: Homestuck
School of Magic: Divination
Power Set Justification: Terezi's spell set is a reflection of her preferring to 'see' the world through her olfactory senses and her obsession with and search for justice. Each power should bolster her abilities as an investigator.

(Note: If possible, I would like all three powers to be "Smell" based versions rather than Sight based, fitting with little miss "always wears a blindfold" wannabe Lady Justice over here. If they need to be sight based, that's fine too. Just need to know which.)
Power Set:
Level One: Smell Lies: (Spell Variant of Detect Thoughts) Instead of being able to read any thought of someone, on a failed save she is able to smell whether or not a person is lying to her. This does not give her any additional insight into the lie or truth, but simply tells her if they are lying.
Level Two: Mind Spike: She reaches into the mind of one creature she can smell within range. On a failed save, the affected creature takes mental damage and she always knows the target's location for up to an hour.
Level Three: True Smelling: (Self Only) When invoked, she gains Truesmelling for the next hour, allowing her to smell things as they truly are (and thus seeing secret doors, hidden objects and through illusions.)

Written Requirement:
So, overall, there's been three big things going on with Terezi's development in her time in Asgard so far:
-Coping with the loss of Vriska and her other friends and seeking new associations with others. While Terezi pretty firmly has no intention of getting into a romantic entanglement anytime in the next sweep of her life thanks to the botched and horrible relationships she's had in her past, she's been gradually working through some of her issues over her and Vriska's respective deaths in canon and their difficult relationship, and has gradually opened herself up to the idea of a moirailship with Naminé. Since starting it, she's been testing the waters and finding it to be healthy, as the two are actually protecting and looking out for each other in the ways her former moirailship never really involved.

-Getting over some of her impishness: This is always going to be a bit of a work in progress, given her awful sense of humor, but she's been gradually and slowly admitting to people that she is not blind, and has been using audio and visual messages more and more to try and convey things without being confusing. While she still delights in messing with people, she's been leaning more towards open communication to minimize headaches.

-Maturing and taking an interest in the long-term fate of Asgard: This started to come to a head in the War Council, and with the most recent 'sacrifice' incident as animals appeared in the region. Terezi has been increasingly worried about the lack of laws in Asgard, its poor communication in times of defense. She's put some (but not all) of her impishness aside, taken her blindfold off and begun helping to actively build homes with Turgon and work towards some sort of stable form of city defense. But as this has progressed, she has reached the point of actively petitioning the others in town to help petition the gods for a real set of formal laws that the natives can obey, before something worse happens. The capstone to things is that last 'extra' link, where she's officially trying to start a law-oriented conversation.

Basically, it's still babysteps because she's still kind of a dumb kid even as she's gotten older, but she's trying to be more intentionally mature about her relationships with others. Trying, naturally, being the operative word.

Fifth Proof: LINK - 10/29/2019 - Naminé ([personal profile] lethechained) [Present in Tier 2 App] - 15 Log Tags by Terezi

Written Requirement:
As with the previous developments, there's been three primary angles of development related to Terezi's growth within the setting and her investment in the broader Asgard/ties to her faction and friends in town:
A) Valuing Her Own Life -
In her threads with Naminé & Chizuru, a pattern is laid out that has persisted over the last nearly six to nine months. Terezi, in canon, is fairly well known like most of the trolls for taking considerable risks and being very aggressive when provoked to anger. It makes her take foolhardy risks that ultimately lead to her engaging in fights that lead to her demise. Since she's come to Asgard, not only canon mates (Karkat Vantas and Dave Strider while present) but characters like Naminé, Chizuru and Peter Quinn have put a very distinct effort into convincing her that her life matters, and that she shouldn't take foolish risks with this. It has led her not to going quite as deep into heavy fighting as she did in the first major battle with the great dragon (riding bareback behind Ivar the Boneless and directly assaulting the thing by stabbing while between its legs), but rather to moving into more of a supporting role. In the confrontation with the frozen horde and the wraiths, she did enter the fray, but hung back as a supporting 'sniffer' to help pin-point wraiths for others to kill using her level 2 powers, rather than directly engaging or taking the insane risk of scouting deep into enemy territory as she personally wanted to. This is how she returns to Naminé in the above thread alive, but injured. It further develops in later threads, with her serving entirely in support rather than entering the main confrontation with the DmC hordes of hell, remaining back to assist in building bulwarks rather than entering a fight she couldn't properly support.

B) Intentionality in Communicating with Others/Mentoring Those In Need -
Terezi is somewhat infamous in her canon for being a demented and terrible teacher. In canon, she 'took Dave under her wing,' though the result of this was that she frequently sought out ways to get him killed, forcing him to use his time manipulation powers to avoid the death. She was occasionally helpful, but more often just a troll. Because of the goading of her moirail, Naminé, Peter and others she's attempted to turn over a new leaf, particularly with newer arrivals. While she's still tempted to try and tease and troll newbies, she's taken them more explicitly under her wing to attempt to help them settle into life in Asgard. Probably the most noteable example of this was Asterios. The berserker has next to no social skills, and would potentially be an 'easy mark' in her mind, but rather than trolling him actively, she's been taking her time to try and offer him assistance in learning battle tactics that could help him be more than a brute-force fighter when not in the middle of a battle rage, and more importantly has been helping him learn to read off and on, teaching him words (And even making sure he understands the difference between troll words and human english words) and helping to increase his vocabulary.

She's taking it upon herself at this point, when she sees a new person, to maybe poke a little fun if she's certain that they can take it, but mostly to make sure that they're on the same page as everyone else. It shows a level of development that drags her out of her violent and dangerous behavior in the past and more towards being a productive team player and a useful mentor to newer arrivals.

C) Coping with Loss/Self-Esteem improvement/Helping others cope -
In a lot of ways, this is a direct development of her previous growth listed in Tier 2. Where previously she was forced to cope with the fact that Vriska was gone and had not appeared here (meaning that the friend she had JUST made peace with in canon was now dead and she wasn't, and building survivor guilt onto someone who already struggled with depression), now she had to lose two other friends, her only ones from home that were present in Asgard, Dave and Karkat. It was in some ways a test of whether or not she had built the support network she had begun to seek in Asgard with the loss of Vriska and its sting, and whether she could handle it again, and even be supportive of others in turn.

Chizuru and Sora, along with most of her cast, have been important in this. Both Dave and Karkat disappeared to return home right around the start of December, around the same time that most of the remainder of Sora's own friends from home disappeared. This has given Terezi an opportunity to clear up and open up about her own circumstances, that any friend she loses here is a friend she will never see again even if she returns, as she's effectively dead within seconds of her return. Partings are permanent ones to her, and she's been forced to make peace with this, which has led her to actively wish to help the kingdom build itself up as much out of a sense of self preservation as any. At this point, however, she's also been seeking and counseling, helping others whose friends have disappeared (A level of empathy she isn't generally known for in canon, but which is not out of the realm of possibility for those closest to her, showing that she's been opening up to people in Asgard). She counsels Sora about the loss of his friends, and at the same time receives support from Chizuru (along with Peter and Ivar, not listed above as they're also on the previous power upgrade request and I kept that to one repeat this time.), helping her to cope both with her situation, and to continue to see herself as worth caring about, rather than falling into the depressive states that the character canonically struggles with. She has yet to collapse into inebriated stupors, as she sometimes did in canon, in large part due to the support of her CR in Asgard.

Alright, after some thought, I like Option C.

Options A and B last for such durations that I think permission checking might get a wee bit complicated, whereas Option C has so many fun conversations for types of lie smells. So many weird and nifty conversations.

Love it. Thanks guys!
