SELECTING A GOD HOUSE

selecting a god house.
welcome to asgard.
The very first thing you will be told upon entry to the game is that your life magic does not belong here within Yggdrasil. As magic spills forth from the well of the World Tree to create your world, it changes from one pinprick of magic to the next as it travels along the branches, allowing for the wide breadth of creation that is the multiverse. No two worlds are the same, but in that manner, your world is also dramatically different from this one. The magic here is pure, unfiltered, and as the gods discovered with the arrival of the first Wanderers, it is incompatible with the transmuted magic within you. In order to protect you - and in association, the fragile sprouts of your world - the gods are offering to tether your soul to theirs, thereby lending a solid lifeline for you to exist safely within this realm until they can discover the means to return you to your home.

There is, however, one important thing to note. The gods cannot tether their soul to someone that does not belong within their domain. That means you must share in common some core personality traits or beliefs, something that aligns your cause with theirs. This does not need to be a perfect fit for the ideal representation of that domain either; there are positive and negative ways for anything to manifest in a person, and the domains cover the broad spectrum of possibility for their particular themes. For example, both incredibly smart characters and unfortunately less so characters could fall under the domain of Knowledge, with the understanding that one is an excess and the other is a deficit. The idea is to find a defining trait about your character's personality and/or motivations, and then determine which domain would most closely apply. There's a lot of wiggle room here, so as long as you can come up with those core traits, we can help you figure out a god house!

You may also find there is more than one god whose domain you might fall within, which is why the gods are offering you the chance to choose for yourself. To bind two souls together is no small thing, and they would have you make this decision knowingly. Your life here within Asgard may have a profound effect on the growth of the World Tree, so you might want to tether yourself to a god you favor. But time is of the essence. You must make your choice immediately upon waking in Asgard, so the gods will be making themselves available for you to meet them, ask questions, and make the bond in person. Characters that refuse to select a god will be claimed by one whose domain they might fall into; please notify the mods beforehand if you intend to go this route.

to forging new bonds.
After you have selected a god to bond with, you are henceforth considered as belonging to that god's house, and the grey crystal in your bracelet will begin to glow faintly with the color of your chosen god. You will be invited to live within their district in the god-created residences, referred to as quite simply the "god houses"; the districts and their housing units will vary in size and appearance, as the gods saw fit to represent their domains on earth in different ways. You will also be granted a fragment of your god's power, in order to protect yourself during the tumultuous time Yggdrasil is facing. These powers will be chosen OOCly, but they will manifest "randomly" ICly.

But before any of that is possible, first you have to meet the gods! Below are brief summaries of the gods and their different domains. You will be required to list at least two god houses your character might belong to on your application, along with a short justification for how they are relevant to your character and which one they will choose to join. Our monthly intro event will (hypothetically) always be the initial greeting of the gods to the Wanderers, so you will be selecting a god in-game. After acceptance to the game, you will need to respond to your god's corresponding housing and power pages below. Each page will go into greater detail about how they work, so please read them carefully and ask if you have any questions!

meet the gods.
There are two immortal races in Yggdrasil: the giants and the gods. Where the giants represent the Mother's body, the gods represent the Mother's spirit, and as such are more emotional and logic based creatures. Each of them has a very distinct personality, oftentimes reflective of the domains over which they rule. They will have varying reactions to you and any questions you might have, as well as differing opinions over the presence of the Wanderers overall. You'll have to interact with them to find those juicy details, but for now, here are brief descriptions of their domains for you to consider. To find more details, visit the pages above.
