GOD POWER: SIGYN

god power: sigyn.
the goddess of harvest and kindness.
As the most recently born of the gods, growth is in Sigyn's very nature. The pure magic within her is still wildly untamed, sparking and shifting as Sigyn navigates her way through a brand new world. Other life in the world seems to feed off of this raw energy, and in this way, Sigyn finds herself most at home with the flora and fauna that approach her with reverent curiosity and burst into vibrant life at her touch. The very world itself showers Sigyn with love, and she feels a deep compassion for all in the world in return. She may not yet have full understanding of Yggdrasil in all its intricacies, but she feels the drive to nurture life in order for it to grow.

Conjuration Magic
Conjuration is a school of magic that brings creatures or materials to the caster. Conjurations bring manifestations of objects, creatures, or some form of energy to you (the summoning subschool), actually transport creatures from another plane of existence to your plane (calling), heal (healing), transport creatures or objects over great distances (teleportation), or create objects or effects on the spot (creation). You can find a list of Conjuration spells here.

Transmutation Magic
Transmutation is a school of magic that transforms the recipient physically or changes its properties in a more subtle way. Transmutation spells change the properties of some creature, thing, or condition. You can find a list of Transmutation spells here.

Power Set Samples
Conjuration:
Power Set Justification: spells that "befriend nature"
  1. Level One: Find Familiar: You gain the service of a familiar, a spirit that takes an animal form of your choice but no larger than a medium-sized dog, or up to four hours. Your familiar acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. If the familiar is attacked and dies, it will disappear and leave no physical form; simply recast the spell to bring it back. You may only have one familiar at a time; trying to summon two (ex: a cat when you already have a dog) will result in the first familiar changing shape into whatever new animal you're trying to summon. See the spell page for further details, but ignore the first and last paragraphs.
  2. Level Two: Insect Plague: Swarming, biting insects fill a 20 foot radius sphere centered on a point you choose within 300 feet. The sphere spreads around corners and remains for up to an hour, and its area is both difficult to see and move through. Any creature that cannot avoid the swarm is stung by the insects, which start to latch on to them and continue to bite until they are either killed or the creature leaves the area. All creatures in its area of effect will continue to be harassed by the insects until they leave the area.
  3. Level Three: Transport Via Plants: This spell creates a magical link between one large plant you can touch and another plant, at any distance, as long as you have seen or touched the destination plant at least once before. You touch the plant and a gateway between the two opens; for up to 10 minutes, any creature can step into the target plant and exit from the destination plant.
Transmutation:
Power Set Justification: spells that "manipulate elements"
  1. Level One: Control Water: For up to 10 minutes, you control any freestanding water inside an area you choose. You can choose from any of the effects listed on the spell page, and you can change between them at will; however, you can only have one effect active at a time.
  2. Level Two: Commune With Plants: You imbue plants within a 30 foot radius of you with limited sentience and animation, giving them the ability to communicate with you and exhibit very limited motion for the next 30 minutes. The plants are unable to uproot themselves and move, but they gain the ability to point in a direction, to lower or raise a branch, and any similar gradual harmless movement. Alternatively, you may choose to bolster the vitality of the plants around you and promote swift growth: plant life in a 30 foot radius experiences a year's worth of growth over the next 10 minutes, though you can choose to stop the growth early. The plants are unable to communicate with you as they are growing; while you get the sense that they understand you, you have no idea what they are saying in response.
  3. Level Three: Control Weather: You take control of the weather within one mile of you for up to four hours. You must be outdoors to cast this spell, with clear access to the sky. Moving to a place where you don’t have open access to the sky ends the spell early. Let the mods know when you plan to use this spell so we can discuss the effects and announce it to the game, since the radius will affect the developed area of the city.
You may select or adapt either of these power sets for use!

how to pick your power.
All of this crazy nonsense said, there are three ways you can choose your power:
  1. pick one of the above samples: the easiest solution! We've already presented you with two power sets following a logical progression of development within your god's realm of magic. You can swap some levels out or adapt them in some way, but it's there if you'd like to rely on it.
  2. pick spells from the D&D spell list: this may require some finagling, but we highly recommend this! Follow the links above to select three spells by increasing level that seem related to each other in some logical way. You may pick any three spells you wish, but the levels should follow the general guideline of:
    1. First Level: cantrip - 2nd level
    2. Second Level: 2nd level - 5th level
    3. Third Level: 5th level - 9th level
If some spells don't make sense, or if you know what they do but don't know how it would work in game, let us know and we'll help you adapt it to our world. If you find one spell you like but you don't know what to do about the others, let us know and we can provide suggestions for the rest. If you are familiar with the D&D spell system and want to create a set that is relevant to your god's domain but is not in their listed schools of magic, you can still apply for it as an original set!
  3. provide a well-balanced original power set of your own: this will be highly scrutinized by the mods for fairness, so plan accordingly! Consider your god's domains and realm of magic, and come up with one central power along with two logical levels of progression building upon that core magic. The levels should be appropriately along the lines of: weak - strong - powerful. There must also be reasonable limitations on your suggested power. The mods may make adjustments as they see fit before approval. You may use the Superpower Wiki if you'd like, but please provide links for reference.
To submit your power for approval, copy the appropriate form below and reply to this post with CHARACTER NAME - CANON in the title of your comment. A mod will respond to your comment with APPROVED/REVISIONS/REJECTED along with clearer descriptions of your powers or additional comments. We'll have a little bit of back and forth conversation on this post (or in private if you prefer; feel free to contact us) to hash out the details, so don't be afraid if we respond with revisions! We're really excited to be giving you guys customizable powers so we hope you'll work with us in making this manageable.

ready to level up?
Have you been active within your community in Asgard? Have you hosted an event or built an establishment or otherwise contributed to the development of your district? Have you forged a meaningful relationship with your god? Has living in Asgard contributed to your development as a person in some way? Or has your presence in Asgard contributed to someone else's development as a person, whether it be by positive or negative means? There are many different ways to "qualify" for leveling up; the point is that we want to see true development in yourself, your god, or your world. We want to see how you are shaping Asgard, or how Asgard is shaping you. This investment is what strengthens the bond between you and your god, granting you access to greater levels of power. If you need help figuring out what this justification might look like for your character, please contact us so we can guide you to your next level!

That said, there will be an activity requirement and a short written explanation of what your character has accomplished and developed here in Asgard. This doesn't need to be fancy or anything, we just really want to see your character getting something out of the game and being rewarded with some kickass new powers. As of right now, the level up requirements are as follows:
  • Level Two:
    • Activity Requirement: 50 comments with at least five different characters, each showing some type of "development" or "growth" as described above. You may use up to seven threads to meet the 50 comment requirement. All comments posted in-character on the network and log communities and IC inboxes are valid for these proofs. Threads may be from no longer than six months prior to your application. This should give you plenty of time to build upon a slow-burn development, such as projects that take a long time to complete or relationships that change over time. Show us something good or maybe even something bad happening to your character that has in some way pushed them to grow. Let us peep on some on some of your more meaningful threads!
    • Written Requirement: write no less than five sentences describing your character's growth as a result of their actions or influence in Asgard. Are they happy? Are they scared? Has Asgard made them see something in a new light, or are they now focused on something drastically different than their home life? You can consider this a basic summary of what your character has done during their time in Asgard and how this may have affected them. This doesn't need to be very fancy or long, whatever you think is enough to show some small amount of development for your character.
  • Level Three:
    • Activity Requirements: 75 comments with at least three different characters (7 comments minimum from your character per thread), each showing a significant amount of "development" or "growth" for your character. You may use may use up to five threads to meet the 50 comment requirement. You may only reuse two of the same characters from your Level Two application, and you cannot reuse the same threads. All comments posted in-character on the network and log communities and IC inboxes are valid for these proofs. Threads may be from no longer than three months prior to your application. This is because we specifically want to see something profound happen for your character that affects them as a person in some way. Level Three is the "powerful" stage of your power, which means your bond with your god and/or your district is at its strongest. Why? What happened? What changed for them? What are they committed to now that they might not have been beforehand? What have they gained or lost that has shifted their outlook or priorities? We want to see deep character development and the threads where it all happened.
    • Written Requirement: write no less than seven sentences describing the growth your character has gone through overall in Asgard. Build upon what you told us about in your Level Two application without reusing too much of the same information. Tell us about something your character influenced that has had a deep impact on either you, your god, or Asgard and Yggdrasil overall. How has your character's time in Asgard changed something on a profound level? Brag about it and let us soak in the awesomeness of your accomplishments. The major things we're looking for are 1) a major change in a character's personality or behaviour compared to them entering the game, 2) a way that your character has engaged with their Godhaus, and 3) a demonstration of their involvement with the setting in general (ie. magic, lore, major plot events, etc.)
When you're ready, copy the appropriate application below and respond to your original comment from when you first requested your power. Put CHARACTER NAME - LEVEL TWO/THREE APPLICATION in the title of your new comment. The mods will respond with APPROVED/REVISIONS/REJECTED along with an explanation of our decision and additional comments. To be quite frank, we're more invested in you having fun than being super strict about this whole process, so don't be afraid of feeling like you need to meet a certain standard or anything. This is honestly just a way for you to show us that you're doing something fun in the game, and we want to reward you for that with some new magic tricks. It's really as simple as that! If you're ever uncertain, give us what you have and we'll work with you on it, and always feel free to contact us directly for help.

NAMINE | KINGDOM HEARTS

[personal profile] lethechained 2019-06-08 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Kitty
Character Name: Naminé ([personal profile] lethechained)
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
School of Magic: Conjuration
Power Set Justification: I went with an altered version of the "spells that befriend nature" from above.
Power Set:
Level One: Healing Spirit: You call forth a nature spirit to soothe the wounded. The intangible spirit can heal minor injuries of individuals within range, but cannot physically interact with objects or deal damage to others.
Level Two: Grasping Vine: You conjure a vine that sprouts from the ground. When you cast this spell, you can direct the vine to lash out at a creature or attempt to grab hold of it.
Level Three: Transport Via Plants: This spell creates a magical link between a large inanimate plant within range and another plant, at any distance, as long as you have seen or touched the destination plant at least once before. For up to one minute, any creature can step into the target plant and exit from the destination plant.

Player Name: Robin
Character Name: Cadfael([personal profile] brother_cadfael)
Canon: Cadfael (tv series)
School of Magic: Transmutation
Power Set Justification: Given Cadfael's occupation as an herbalist, the core of his power will resolve around plants and the earth.
Power Set:
Level One: Druidcraft: To a certain extent, Cadfael can speed up the growth of flowers, seed pods or leaves. This will only work within a five ft cube.
Level Two: Earthen_grasp: Within a five-foot area, provided he can see the target, Cadfael would be able to transform a giant fist from the earth. Said fist will either be able to crush, move, or simply restrain whatever target he has in focus.
Level Three: erupting earth: Within a visible range, Cadfael will be able to summon a fountain of churned earth and stone erupts in a 20-foot cube centered on that point. Along with the initial damage, the ground in that area becomes difficult to travel across until cleared.

Ariadne | Original

[personal profile] demonicbeauty 2019-08-08 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Wizera
Character Name: Ariadne of Valeria ([personal profile] demonicbeauty)
Canon: Original Character
School of Magic: Transmutation
Power Set Justification: From Ariadne's perspective (even if the powers are ICly random), this is an ability absolutely critical to survival. Being Alastrian is her biggest secret. It has to be. Nature won't allow an Alastrian to survive. And it is a power of lies. Nature's lies.
Power Set:
Level One: Camouflage - At this level, Ariadne can disguise her outward appearance to match the predominant population, in terms of skin tone, hair color, eye color, and anything else color-related. It does not change the shape of her body. Nor does it mask scars, injuries, or anything external to her body (such as clothing or jewelry). This ability merely allows her to blend in with the predominant population. It can be sustained for no more than an hour at a time, before she is forced to revert back to her original form. But she can reactivate it, while awake. It also will not be active is she is alone or via some kind of magical portal or video feed. She has to be in the presence of other people to make it work.
Level Two: Adaptation - This ability allows Ariadne's body to adapt to its surroundings to benefit her survival. In water, she can develop gills. In a fire, she can extend a filter over her mouth and nose. If falling, she can form a membrane between her arms and legs that allows her to slow her descent. All of these changes are temporary and disappear as soon as they are no longer required in the environment. She cannot cause them to appear at will.
Level Three: Evolution - This ability is similar to the Adaptation ability, except it doesn't require environmental circumstances. Instead, Ariadne can select an evolutionary change to her body at will (such as wings, talons, a third eye, etc.).
These traits will last for about an hour, although she can end them sooner. They immediately vanish if she is knocked unconscious. They can also be injured, similar to any standard limb, and she has full sensation in them, so she will feel the pain.

ARIADNE - LEVEL TWO

[personal profile] demonicbeauty 2019-10-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Ariadne ([personal profile] demonicbeauty)
Canon: Original
Level Two Power: Adaptation
Activity Requirement:
First Proof: LINK - 8/9 - Josie ([personal profile] polydeukes)
Second Proof: LINK - 8/10 - Lucifer ([personal profile] turnanythingon)
Third Proof: LINK - 8/27 - Ivar ([personal profile] ragnarsson)
Fourth Proof: LINK - 9/11 - Peter Quill ([personal profile] momsboy)
Fifth Proof: LINK - 9/25 - Jim Kirk ([personal profile] winscenario)

Written Requirement: Ariadne was born and raised in a world that demanded she hide exactly who and what she was. Thanks to genetic luck, she inherited her mother's ability to pass for a Human, an ability that she lost the second she arrived in Asgard. Ariadne immediately sought new ways to hide herself, and was surprised when she met Josie and learned that her attitude toward non-humanoids was tolerant and peaceful. This conversation convinced Ariadne to press her luck and reveal her true self to Josie, who immediately accepted her without any fear or hesitation. It wasn't the first time a humanoid had seen her true form, but it was the first time that Ariadne had the choice. And she knew she was going to need allies.

Filled with hope about Josie's kindness, Ariadne attempted to reveal herself a second time, this time to Lucifer, over the network. His response was confusing, but not at all hostile. Because she didn't understand it, she remained guarded. But some of the fear started to evaporate. She opened up about her wings for the first time to Ivar (the swan). This was something she'd never talked about with anyone, not at home and certainly not in Asgard. Admittedly, she thought Ivar was a swan. But it was good practice.

With Peter Quill, who initially thought she was an alien and not all that weird, Ariadne started to open up a little about the life she left behind. Specifically, she revealed some of the details of the war and the Red Dragon, both of which managed to disrupt her childhood and lead her down her path of secrecy.

Ironically, when Ariadne was finally gifted with the ability to shapeshift, she lost control of her powers and accidentally revealed her true form to Jim Kirk. Like Peter, Jim was almost blase about the whole thing. But it inspired a new change in Ariadne. For the first time in her life, she started to wonder if she truly needed to hide at all. Not just her form, but her entire self, a self she'd only shared in bits and pieces.

Canon: Original
Level Three Power: Polymorph
Activity Requirement:

Second Proof: LINK - 12/12/19 - Padme Amidala ([personal profile] democratically)
Third Proof: LINK - 12/25/19 - Kol Mikaelson ([personal profile] itchtokill)

Fifth Proof: LINK - 1/28/20 - Jim Kirk ([personal profile] winscenario)
Sixth Proof: LINK - 2/2/20 - Brother Cadfael ([personal profile] brother_cadfael)
Seventh Proof: LINK - 2/2/20 - Chizuru Yukimura ([personal profile] tealeafs)

Written Requirement:
Ariadne was starting to find her place in Asgard. She had a few trusted friends who knew her secrets. A garden to cultivate. A feeling like she could genuinely help. And a bedroom all to herself (whoa!). All things considered, live was good. In fact, she didn't really think she could want more, other than a few explanations. Leave it to her friend Peter Quill to throw off her balance a little. At the party in the castle, they struck up a casual conversation which hit a funny nerve with Ariadne. Thinking about him marrying Gamora, possibly having children with her, Ariadne realized that they were living in a place where such children would be accepted. Potentially green children, that is. Sharing her secret with Peter was one thing, of course. But green for the whole world to see? It was possible here, wasn't it?

She might have let it settle there, but something decidedly unsettling came to light that same night, in the form of Padme Amidala. When they laid eyes on one another, it was like looking in a mirror. Ariadne immediately came clean to Padme, not wanting to give her the wrong idea. Padme, of course, was more than patient and tolerant. But it left Ariadne with a bad taste in her mouth. Was she stealing someone else's face? That was different from trying to blend in. And it sort of stank of bad intentions.

The questions from the ball bothered her over the next few weeks. When Kol Mikaelson, a new friend she found quite fascinating, introduced her to the concept of new years resolutions, Ariadne decided she needed to jump on board. Her resolution? "Try to live a more honest life." But how to to about doing that, while still surviving? Another new friend, Connor, told her about how his "people" fought for the same rights and fair treatment as Humans. Ariadne found herself desperate to know more, haunted by the possibility. If them, why not Alastrians as well? The idea of coming out as Alastrian was a daunting one. For guidance, she turned to her pal, Jim Kirk. As always, he proved both supportive and confusing. But mostly supportive. Which gave Ariadne the reassurance she needed to open up.

So Ariadne went live with her secret, broadcasting her true form for everyone on the network to see. Although she expected backlash, she was surprised on any number of fronts. Not only did Brother Cadfael, the person she'd been lying to the most forgive her. But even strangers she'd never met before were willing to forgive her. People like Chizuru Yukimura even wanted to know more about her! This changed Ariadne's entire perspective on Asgard and the people therein.
