GOD JOBS

❧ for those looking to help.
The gods have opened up vocations for all wanderers, allowing anyone who wishes it to take a more active role within Asgard. While these jobs are considered to be volunteer work and entirely optional for your character, that does not mean that they are not without various and unique perks along with allowing your character a natural way to get involved with the meta-plot!
Questions? A brief and comprehensive overview of vocation FAQs can be found here.
❧ signing up.
Are you interested in signing your character up for a job? Please copy and paste the following form into a comment, including why you believe your character is fit for their job underneath the skill/traits section:
NOTE: If you want a more specific job title but aren't sure precisely how to classify what your character wants to do, describe it and we'll provide them a title! (E.G. "I want X to be a skald, and to study plants." would become "Botanist" or something.)
An example of what we're looking for on this form can be found below:

VANGUARDS | COUNCIL | MEDICS
CULTIVATORS | AMBASSADORS | SENTINELS
SKALDS | SCOUTS | ARTISTS
❧ ODIN'S VANGUARDS

Each of Odin's vanguards dedicates themselves to a project of interest - one of their own choosing, or one of a few suggested by Odin himself if they lack inspiration - and through these projects, they further the technological, magical, or otherwise innovative prowess of Asgard as a whole.
Innovation is a slow and gruelling process, however, and some projects may take months to complete! Fear not, though - progress is progress, and vanguards will see the budding fruits of their labor (typically positive, though occasionally negative) at least once per month as Odin peeks in on individual projects to see where their cards have thus far fallen.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
An innovative/creative mind. The ability to step back outside of the box and notice possibilities previously unconsidered. A background in engineering, architecture, mechanics, magitechnology, or any other such innovative craft is also helpful!
❖ current vanguards:

❧ NJORD'S COUNCIL

The council will be assembled (or consulted remotely) to weigh in on a variety of issues, from domestic to overarching policy to how the city should respond to one issue or another. Between meetings, the council is expected to keep an eye out for topics in need of the council's attention, which should be brought to the next assembly.
Individuals who wish to be a member of Njord's council must allow him to skim the surface of their minds and glean insight on their nature. Those not willing are, unfortunately, not needed on the council.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
Experience leading or planning for large groups in survival situations. Strong concept of ethics. Ability to debate and disagree calmly.
❖ current councilors:

❧ FRIGG'S MEDICS

The most skilled medics may also be called upon to assist in teaching first aid practices to those in need of the knowledge, while other members of the medical team will be tasked with handing out medical supplies and ensuring that there is a well-kept stockpile of bandages and medicinal herbs available at any moment.
Frigg's medics pull together care packages and supply bundles to be carted off by those who march off to battle (or even just on a longer trip). They also head the welcome parties waiting to receive those travelers when they return, providing not just medical attention but blankets, food, and possibly even a shoulder to lean on in order to get the weary travellers back to their homes.
There is also a more clinical aspect to this position, involving record keeping and filing away information. What Wanderer requires what kind of active care? Which are going away to battle, hopefully to return, and have they been given the pack they need to care for themselves? Record keeping is an equally important part of being a medic, for those perhaps not so skilled in the more hands-on aspect.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
A deft hand and compassionate heart. Medical magic or experience. The ability to compartmentalize when a healing hand just isn’t enough.

❧ SIGYN'S CULTIVATORS

This work is labor intensive, unless you’ve been gifted with magic to lighten the load. Typical tasks will include picking fruits and vegetables, using tools to harvest grains and plow crops, as well as till and maintain areas that are ready for new seeds to be planted. Her cultivators will also be responsible for food deliveries throughout Asgard, like supplying raw ingredients to restaurants, or sending requested produce to godhouses. This work doesn’t go unpaid, however, as all cultivators receive the first pick of any harvest and will frequently be asked to try out more experimental fruits and vegetables Sigyn comes up with (whether they be blessed or cursed).
Not interested in such a hefty undertaking? Sigyn leaves a lot of wiggle room for being a cultivator. Creating your own garden, or otherwise contributing to the food economy will also count you as a cultivator, whether it’s making food for others or caring for animals.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
Varies by the job! For harvesters, the capability of lifting 50 pounds and no adversity to dirt getting under your fingernails. For individual gardeners or farmers, a green thumb and passion for tending to young plant/animal life. For chefs or other food-prep roles, a good taste for identifying and improvising what a recipe needs, and a zest for creating culinary treats for others to enjoy.

❧ TYR'S AMBASSADORS

Naturally, a facet of the ambassador role is the willingness to endeavor courageously beyond the safety of the city and to face new and unknown peoples of varying levels of benevolence or threat. It won't always be known what level of threat these encounters will hold until the ambassadors meet them face-to-face, and these ambassadors are expected to keep a cool and charismatic head regardless of what they find, avoiding conflict at any and all cost save for the cost of Wanderer lives.
Between diplomatic incidents, ambassadors are expected to study what little information is known on other peoples and cultures, and to familiarize themselves with the literature on the known history of Asgard.
Additionally, ambassadors might also take on the role of helping welcome new Wanderers to their new circumstances. These welcome ambassadors will be relied on to answer general questions about Asgard, technology, magic, and otherwise help newcomers get accustomed to the city and the gods that govern it. As such, welcome ambassadors are encouraged to linger at or around the castle on arrival days, maybe even with some form of care package for the new Wanderers as they emerge from their first encounter with the city's expansive pantheon.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
Well-spoken. Diplomatic. Open-minded and able to approach others without judgement. Good at understanding other people, even if they differ somewhat from yourself.

❧ HEIMDALL'S SENTINELS

The sentinels, as a group, are also responsible for the battle-readiness of Wanderers outside the sentinels. Helping other Wanderers learn to fight, sparring with them for practice, and other such tasks are within the purview of the sentinals's overarching responsibility. In fact, some members of the sentinels may opt to adopt a teaching role exclusively, guiding fledgling fighters on a daily basis rather than participating in patrols and the like.
In times of battle, the sentinels are found on the front lines - not mandatorily, but via strong urging and promised reward.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
Combat experience. A level head when faced with danger. Patience when instructing, if assuming a teaching role.

❧ MIMIR'S SKALDS

Skalds are responsible for recording and studying the world around them, whether firsthand or through reports brought by Honir's scouts. Such topics as flora and fauna, geography, other cultures, magic, and the history of the world are all fair game, as well as many more. As long as you're researching and understanding some part of the world around you, you're doing your job as a skald. This sometimes requires (or at least benefits from) some experimentation, like "What happens if I crack open this rock?" or "I wonder what this plant does if you lick it?" - though it diverges sharply from Odin's vanguards in that they deal in grand-scale innovation and discovery while skalds remain rooted firmly in studying things as they already are.
Any critical discoveries made by a skald must be reported to the appropriate god or vocation. A skald's primary duty may be to study and understand, but it's nearly as crucial to make sure that Asgard as a whole is well-informed of any dangerous (or adversely, beneficial) things uncovered during those studies.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
Attention to detail. Patience. Organizational skills. Thirst for understanding.
❖ current skalds:

❧ HONIR'S SCOUTS

In long-term expeditions outside of Asgard, such as the Wight War, scouts will often be asked to break away from the group to monitor the road both ahead and behind, and will work in conjunction with Heimdall's sentinels to ensure that when camp is made for the night, it's done in a safe environment with no unforeseen dangers.
As Asgard grows and begins to turn eyes toward settling outposts, scouts will be responsible for locating the right place to place one and for monitoring the surrounding area while the outpost is built.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
An eye for detail. A thirst for exploration. The physical stamina to cover long distances in a day.

❧ SKADI'S ARTISTS

Maybe they create art, via paints, song, written verse, or any other medium to mind. They can display it in a district, or maybe post it on the network, or maybe even add it to the city's public library - as long as it's publicly accessible in some shape or form, the artist role is fulfilled. There's no need for artistic experience or even talent of any kind. The only thing that matters is to create and to share.
Alternatively, a Wanderer under Skadi's occupational purview might dedicate their working hours to making others' art known. This Wanderer might set up an art gallery, or perhaps organize and advertise musical concerts or live dramatic theater. Anyone who enables other Wanderers to feel things via some form of art fits well into Skadi's artists. The world (or at least the city) is your oyster.
❖ recommended skills & traits:
Creativity. Passion. The bravery or confidence to share the art you've created. The keen aesthetic eye and/or musical ear required to curate a gallery or music show.
