GOD HOUSES

god houses.
how the god houses work.
Once you have chosen a god to tether your soul to for the duration of your stay in Asgard, you are henceforth considered as belonging to that god's house. The crystal in your bracelets will always dimly glow with your god's chosen color, and natives of the world will recognize and acknowledge you by your god house. More than that, however, you will be given either randomly assigned or chosen housing within your god's district where you will be welcome to live while you are here. These houses were constructed by your god personally and are therefore referred to as "the god houses", or god housing.

Before we get into the details of housing in each district, there are some very crucial rules to go over first.
  1. You cannot stay the night in someone else's god house. The magic that binds you to your god also binds you to your god house; though you can certainly visit and spend all day in another's house, you must leave by 10PM. Around 8PM, you will start to feel uncomfortable and vaguely paranoid. By 9PM, you will distinctly feel out of place with the urge to leave. And by 10PM, you will feel an irresistible compulsion to return to your god house for the evening. This feeling will be in effect until about 5AM the next day.

  2. You are not required to live in your god house. On the tail of the first rule, this only applies to the god houses themselves! You can live in another district in the city without any issue, as long as it is not within the god housing. No alternative housing exists currently, however, so you will have to build new housing yourself or petition the gods for help - or sleep outside. We're not judging. Building your own house can take four to six months depending on how many people are involved with the construction, and gods can provide the amenities and more complicated systems for the home, like electricity, plumbing, etc.

  3. All amenities are powered by magic. There is no "electricity" as we understand it in the modern world, and many other common functions are also powered by magic. To turn on a faucet or a light fixture, you simply have to will it to happen. Food in a refrigerator will never spoil, despite having no discernible power source. Keep little details like this in mind as you imagine the differences between amenities we expect in the real world and how they exist in Asgard, but most modern amenities are available.

  4. At the same time, extraneous amenities are sparse. It's comfortable living, but it's not lavish in any way. There seems to be little in the way of leisurely intent in the design of the city other than a surprising amount of seating with a pretty view; everything else seems to be purely for function. Maybe someone should leave some suggestions with the nearest available deity.

  5. Food and clothing will be provided for free, but you are responsible for cooking and cleaning. The available food right now is largely grains, vegetables, and fruits due to a lack of native wildlife. The available clothing right now is comfortable and in some modern styles, but also generally boring and meant for function over form. Although the Asgard natives will deliver these to your god house as needed, there are no maids to serve you or clean up after you. The god houses all come fully equipped with kitchens, bathrooms, and washrooms that are available for use at any time. You will have to figure out how to fend for yourselves; this may be a good opportunity to plot with the others!

ODIN
God housing in Odin's district is set up much like a college dormitory. There is one large central building, and the first floor is where you can find the kitchen, dining room, living room, and stairwells to the upper floors. Each floor above the first is comprised of eight bedrooms in total, four on opposite sides of a hallway. At the end of each hall is a shared laundry room and bathroom with separated toilet and shower stalls for privacy. An additional floor will be added as needed. Please ignore any TVs/phones/etc in the reference photos. We ain't that fancy, sorry y'all. (1) (2) (3)

Additional Notes:
  • The Stone Prison is located just beside the god house in a grassy area as of December 2019.

NJORD
God housing in Njord's district is set up as a cluster of neatly arranged tiny houses. Each housing unit has its own bathroom, kitchen, washer/dryer set, and two beds all packed within a tight 300 square foot house. Additional houses will be added as needed. (1) (2)

SKADI
God Housing in Skadi's district is set up similarly to an apartment complex. There is one tall building with a communal laundromat on the first floor and a central elevator, powered by magic to stop at the landing for each floor above. Every floor has six independent studio apartments complete with their own modest kitchen and shower/tub combination. Additional floors will be added as needed. (1) (2)

SIGYN
God housing in Sigyn's district will be set up like a campground with evenly spaced log cabins. Each cabin has its own self-contained amenities, with a small kitchen, bathroom, and living area on the first floor. There is a small manual wash basin by the sink and two rows of clotheslines running parallel to the side of the cabin outdoors. On the second floor of the cabin, there are four beds tucked against each wall around the ladder opening. Additional cabins will be added as needed. (1) (2) (3) (4)

TYR
God housing in Tyr's district is set up very similarly to Summerland from Legion. There is one complex that takes a very open-spaced, communal approach to housing. There are very few doors anywhere in the complex, meaning most rooms are connected through hallways and open passages. All of the shared living spaces are on the first floor, including the kitchens, a dining hall, laundry rooms, several lounge areas, and individual conference rooms that can be used for meetings or classes. On the second floor are adjacent bedrooms that house eight people in stacked but comfortably sized bunk beds, and every bedroom unit has its own adjoining bathing unit. There will only ever be two floors, but more bedrooms will appear as needed, somehow without changing the shape of the building. (1) (2) (3) (4)

HEIMDALL
God housing in Heimdall's district is actually identical to the military barracks because Heimdall is not the most creative of men, although they are in their own separate complexes. Housing units are arranged in blocks of four, with one central building devoted to kitchen space, a mess hall for communal dining, and a laundromat. Each house has one 4-person bunk bed with individual storage spaces and a shared bathroom. It'll be up to you to plot who get the top bunks and bottom bunks. Additional housing blocks will be added as needed. (1) (2) (3) (4)

HONIR
God housing in Honir's district is set up very similarly to Hobbit holes. Honir may have slightly misunderstood the purpose of this assignment; his god houses are largely underground and the entrances are hidden from those that do not live there because he thought it would make finding them like a little adventure. Each housing unit comes fully equipped with its own kitchen, dining, and laundry rooms. There are four separate bedrooms in each house, and each of them is uniquely decorated with random bits and baubles that might make them seem somewhat lived in already. Additional housing units will be added as needed. (1) (2) (3)

to be assigned a room.
Copy and paste the following into a comment on this post. The mods will respond when you have been assigned a room. Rooms are assigned at random the moment you make your bond with your god, so you can't choose where you want to be placed. However, once they've been assigned, you're free to plot with your fellow players and NPCs to see about negotiating different arrangements!

Starting to make own home

Player Name: Latroma
Character Name: Terezi Pyrope ([personal profile] mindseer)
God House: Mimir
Room Selection:

Pre-Notification post: Terezi is beginning to build her own home as of May 1. It'll be in Mimir district. However, because building a home does require 4-6 months, there shouldn't be a change in her housing yet. She's just starting the process. Until she finishes, she will continue to live in God Housing at Mimir's where she is.

>.> It's a tree house, cause she likes living up in trees.
